Exeter Buddhist Meditation Group — Classes in Buddhism and Meditation

In view of the latest government announcements we shall be temporarily meeting online for this class via Zoom rather than face-to-face on Tuesdays from 12th January from 7.30pm until further notice. If you wish to participate, please contact exeter@dechen.org so we can send you an invitation.

From Tuesday, 5th Jan until 30th March at Friends’ Meeting House (Wynards Lane, Magdalen Street, Exeter, Devon, EX2 4HU) – very near the Hotel du Vin. Parking available.

Meetings take place in the main hall to allow for social distancing.

Our friendly and informal meetings take place every Tuesday at 7.30pm providing an introduction to Buddhi

st meditation, teachings, and practice. The 90 minute sessions begin with basic meditation (with instruction give

n if required), followed by a short talk on the Buddha’s teachings and in particular how to apply them to everyday life. The sessions end with time for questions and  discussion.

Meetings are open to all Buddhists and newcomers alike. (We welcome those who are not able to access locally their own Buddhist traditions or teachers but would like to meditate and discuss the tea

chings with us).

Meditation and introduction to Buddhism classes

£4.00/£2.00 per session

It’s a good idea to attend a sequence of classes to at least begin to build an outline of what Buddhism is and how it works. Meditation days are held twice a year.

The Exeter group was established in 1983 and given the name Sakya Thinley Namgyal Ling by its founders Karma Thinley Rinpoche and Lama Jampa Thaye, who has made numerous visits over the years since it was established. Exeter has also hosted teachings by His Holiness  the Sakya Trichen, 41st head of the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, and Phende Rinpoche.

Owing to Covid-19 restrictions, we will be operating a booking system so please email us before you come on exeter@dechen.org.  We will be abiding by the Covid-19 government guidelines for groups meeting as a part of a religious organisation, which as members of the Dechen Community we are. So we will be practising social distancing, hand sanitising and cleaning touch surfaces, and being mindful of avoiding touching surfaces unnecessarily, using masks where appropriate, and keeping spare ones available for visitors. The Friends meeting house is perfectly set up for such purpose with plenty of space at our disposal, so please be aware that our meetings will be as COVID-SAFE as possible. However, please do not attend the group if you are feeling unwell or experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19.
