Passing of Khenpo Appey Rinpoche 16th January 2011 On 28 December 2010, Khenpo Appey Rinpoche, one of His Holiness Sakya Trizin’s tutors, passed away in Nepal. Khenpo Appey Rinpoche was a remarkable scholar and master of the dharma. Born in 1927, he trained at Dzongsar monastery, receiving teachings from many of the greatest masters of the period, including Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro and Jamgyal Rinpoche. Khenpo Appey left Tibet for India in 1959 and subsequently founded Sakya College in 1972 in Mussoorie, India under the auspices of His Holiness Sakya Trizin. His Holiness received many teachings from Khenpo Appey, including the explanation of the Hevajra root tantra. The traditional 49 days of pujas are currently being observed in Nepal and His Holiness will visit Nepal in February to preside over the funeral ceremonies.
