Mikyo Dorje Shedra 2007:
The Uttaratantra Shastra of Maitreya
Part Four
27th - 31st December 2007 11.00 am – 4.30 pm
Manchester - location TBA
The Treatise on the Supreme Continuity (Skt. Uttaratantra Shastra, Tib. rgyud bla ma) was originally transmitted by the bodhisattva Maitreya to Asanga in the 4th century CE. Based upon the sutras of the Third Turning of the Wheel taught by Lord Buddha, it offers a definitive explanation of the doctrine of buddha nature which pervades all beings. In the Karma Kagyu tradition, this text occupies a position of paramount importance in the school's spiritual curriculum.
The Uttaratantra Shastra is being taught by Lama Jampa Thaye through the famous and richly detailed commentary entitled The Lion's Roar, composed by the great Karma Kagyu master, Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye (1813-1899). Attendees will also receive the 'lung' or reading transmission from Lama Jampa, who himself received this text from his own masters in the same way.
