HH Karmapa Thrinley Thaye Dorje, 2009

Announcement of His Holiness's visit to Kagyu Ling, Manchester

We are delighted to announce the visit of His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa, Thrinley Thaye Dorje to Kagyu Ling on the 27th and 28th July at the invitation of Lama Jampa Thaye. The programme for this auspicious event follows below.

The purpose of His Holiness’ visit is to give teachings to Kagyu students and the wider public. In keeping with the Dechen community’s determination not to be drawn into politics we reaffirm here our non-partisan standpoint to which we have adhered according to the advice of our lamas. His Holiness Karmapa Thrinley Thaye Dorje has been recognised according to authentic Kagyu spiritual tradition. At the same time a number of eminent masters have also recognised His Holiness Urgyen Thinley Dorje as Karmapa. We acknowledge the views of these masters and offer our respect to all who support the continuing activity of the Karmapa.

Programme of Events

The Initiation of Karma Pakshi
Monday 27th July 2.00pm

The initiation of Karma Pakshi, the second Karmapa, derives from the lineage of the eminent master Yongge Mingyur Dorje, who received the cycle of teachings in a visionary experience of Karma Pakshi himself. The initiation and its related meditative practices transmit the enlightened vision of mahamudra, the supreme teaching of the Kagyu tradition. His Holiness the 16th Karmapa gave this initiation in Manchester in 1977. It is therefore particularly auspicious that His Holiness Thrinley Thaye Dorje is bestowing it on this occasion.

This initiation is open to all who have taken refuge.

Public Teaching: The Way of the Buddha
Monday 27th July 7.30pm

The way to enlightenment in Mahayana Buddhism proceeds through a step by step development of compassion and wisdom. In this evening talk, His Holiness will teach The Thirty Seven Practices of a Buddha’s Child composed by the Tibetan master, Thokme Zangpo. This famous work provides us with all the instructions necessary for following the gradual path.

The initiation of White Tara from the Kagyu Wish-Fulfilling Wheel Lineage
Tuesday 28th July 3.00pm

The goddess Tara is revered in all traditions of vajrayana Buddhism as the embodiment of the liberating compassion of all the Buddhas. Meditation upon White Tara of the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel bestows the qualities of wisdom and long life.

This initiation is open to all who have taken refuge.
