Study Groups - Thursdays 8 - 9pm

Begins with the Tangton Gyalpo Chenrezik puja at 8pm

Study Group at Sakya CentreThe Buddha taught that we should not simply accept his teachings on face value but that we should study, analyse and contemplate them to discover their truth for ourselves. To this end the Sakya Centre holds a weekly study group where members of the sangha look in detail at a particular presentation of the Buddha’s teachings. The texts covered will be by one of the great Indian or Tibetan masters of the Buddhist tradition, and will have been previously taught by Lama Jampa Thaye.

The study groups are led by experienced practitioners and are open to all those who have attended the relevant teaching or have been coming to the Introductory Courses at the Sakya Centre for some time. Please contact the Sakya Centre if you would like to attend.

Current text: The Seven Points of Mind Training by Geshe Se Chilbupa.

The meditation practice known as Mind Training, or Lojong in Tibetan, is one of the most popular and widely-practised in Buddhism. It contains the Mahayana methods for transforming ordinary consciousness into the mind of enlightenment. At its heart is the practice of ‘Sending and Taking’, which is often referred to as ‘the secret teaching of the Great Vehicle’.

This text was taught by Lama Jampa Thaye at the Sakya Centre Bristol in 2009.
