Educating our children

Lama Jampa giving RefugeThe Sakya Buddhist Centre supports its members in bringing their children up as practising buddhists. To help parents in this we run a monthly Dharma School, suitable for the children of sangha members aged three and over. The sessions comprise recitation of the short Tangton Gyalpo Chenrezik sadhana, a dharma story (usually a Jataka Tale or episodes from the Buddha’s life) and brief discussion of some basic principles of the Buddha’s teaching.

There is also a monthly ‘family puja’ when older children who are able to maintain the appropriate behaviour are invited to attend one of the regular Sunday morning recitations of Chenrezik Mahamudra.

Children at the Dharma School

These activities are suitable for the children of committed Buddhists and it is preferable for the children to have taken refuge and to have received the appropriate Chenrezik initiation, though this is not obligatory.

Please contact the Sakya Centre if you would like to know more.
