Kagyu Dechen Dzong, Harrogate

Kagyu Dechen Dzong is one of the principal Karma Kagyu centres in the country. It was established by Lama Jampa Thaye in 1993 and exists to enable people to learn the systems of meditation and study of the Karma Kagyu school of Buddhism, whose spiritual head is the Karmapa Lama. Kagyu Dechen Dzong is the hub of Kagyu Buddhism Yorkshire, a network of Karma Kagyu meditation groups in Yorkshire. See the individual webpages of our Leeds, Ilkley and Ripon groups for more details.

The activities of the Centre provide an introduction to the wealth of teachings and practices of the Karma Kagyu Buddhist tradition and demonstrate their continuing relevance in modern times. This tradition emphasizes the importance of the relationship between the teacher and the student, as well as the practice of meditation.

Kagyu Dechen Dzong Buddhist Centre and its network of local groups is run by volunteers and funded by donations. It is administered by the Kagyu Dechen Buddhism, registered charity no. 1145791
