Classes in Buddhism and Meditation
10.00 - 11.30 Buddhist Meditation
£4.00 per session (£2 concessions)
We start with calm-abiding meditation to develop a clear and peaceful mind. This is followed by a short explanation of a key Buddhist topic and a period of individual reflective meditation. Each session ends with time for questions, discussion and refreshments. Everyone is welcome, just come along!
The sessions are open to all who wish to find out more about Buddhism and to practise meditation. Our group is co-ordinated by students of Lama Jampa Thaye. We also have close ties with the Sakya Buddhism Exeter with whom we share short retreats twice a year.
Course Based on Buddhist Text
'The 37 Practices of a Buddha’s Child' by Thokme Zangpo
Part 1: Sunday 12th February
10:00am – 4:00pm
The way to enlightenment in Mahayana Buddhism proceeds through a step by step development of compassion and insight. In his guide the great master, Thokme Zangpo, provides us with an indispensable set of instructions for this gradual path. His concise and simple verses extract the essence of the Buddha’s teachings identifying obstacles and how to deal with them, moving us beyond daily preoccupations to discover our potential for unlimited love, compassion and wisdom.
David Armstrong, Bristol Sakya Centre co-ordinator and long standing student of Lama Jampa Thaye, will lead the course over two days. The second part will follow in the Autumn with our sister group in Exeter on November 18. Day 1 will be divided into four one-hour sessions and will be ideal for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of the Mahayana Buddhist path.
Please arrive by 9.45am for a 10.00am start and bring food for a shared lunch.
Sessions times are: 10.00-11.00, 11.30-12.30, 1.30-2.30, 3.00-4.00
